Xi Mu History
The Xi Mu Undergraduate Chapter of Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority, Inc. began with the dreams of Soror Toni Herron and Soror Cheryl Edwards, who became members of Sigma Gamma Rho at the Zeta Chi Chapter at the University of Alabama in Tuscaloosa. They had the desire to bring the sorority to the campus of the University of Alabama at Birmingham.
Through their dedication and efforts, their dream began to materialize through the induction of the "Four Beauties of Blue" (Sorors Cindy "Halo" Gilyard, Catina "Deuce" Passmore, Griena "Professor" Knight, and Latisha "?" McWilliams) on November 5, 1995. These young women exemplified sisterhood, scholarship, and service. On January 21, 1996, the Xi Mu Undergraduate Chapter received its charter from Regional Syntaktes Ann Broughton. On this day, their dream came to fruition, and UAB's campus has never been the same. Since then, the chapter has grown exponentially.
