Q. What is a Sorority?
A sorority is an organization of women bound together by friendship, knowledge, sisterhood, common goals and aspirations. Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority, Inc. is an organization of dynamic leaders who demonstrate the examples of high character standards and community service engagement as well as scholastic and professional achievement. Members of Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority, Inc. share a common foundation of sisterhood.
Q. What are the advantages of joining Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority, Inc.?
Sigma Gamma Rho offers its members opportunities to develop and enhance their respective leadership talents through training and mentorship. Committee leadership and participation in sorority activities and programs further hones these talents.
Sigma Gamma Rho membership provides an atmosphere to connect with a global network of professional contacts, provide invaluable mentorship, increase service to the community, and to join a sisterhood that lasts a lifetime.
Q. What is the policy on hazing?
Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority, Inc. has zero tolerance for hazing. Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority, Inc. does not condone hazing in any form.
Further, as a member of the National Pan-Hellenic Council, Sigma is committed to nurturing the ideals of sisterhood and fraternalism in an atmosphere of responsibility and respect. We are also committed to upholding the dignity and self-respect of all persons seeking membership therein.
Hazing is contrary to this commitment and is prohibited by the rules of each National Pan-Hellenic Council organization.
Q. Do you have to pay to become a member of Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority, Inc.?
Yes. There is an application fee for women who seek consideration for membership as well as new member fees. Payment of annual dues is required in order to maintain an active financial membership status after gaining membership in the sorority. The monies collected are applied towards local chapter, regional and national initiatives as well as administrative expenses.
Q. How much time is required?
Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority, Inc. members typically attend monthly local chapter meetings and area meetings along with regional and national conferences. Members also participate in community service projects on the local, regional and national levels. All members are strongly encouraged to support the sorority’s initiatives whenever possible. However, the overall time commitment is up to each
member’s schedule.
